THE RELATION BETWEEN NURSES’ PERCEPTION ON CONFLICT SETTLEMENT STRATEGY TAKEN BY THE HEAD OF ROOM AND NURSES’ MOTIVATION IN PREVENTING HEALTH-CARE ASSOCIATED INFECTION (HAIs) IN ADULT INPATIENT ROOM AT RSUD CIBABAT

Introduction : a nurse is one of the health service team who becomes the determiner of HAIs prevention success.  Any action a nurse takes is influenced by factors originating from inside and outside of the nurse.  The internal factors from the nurse among others deal with knowledge and motivation, the external factor of the nurse is the leadership style and conflict management of the manager in the organization which plays a very important role in determining the performance of the nurse.  The goal of this research is to know the relationship between the nurse’s perception of conflict settlement strategy and the motivation of the nurse in preventing HAIs in the adult inpatient room at RSUD Cibabat.  The method used in the research is a descriptive correlation with the cross-sectional approach. Results : The sample in this research involved 85 nurses.  The data collection was done using the Thomas-Kilman mode Instrument (TKI) Questionnaire and motivation questionnaire in preventing HAIs.  The variable relation analysis uses Chi-Square test.  The result of the research showed that there was a relationship between the nurse perception on accommodation conflict strategy and the nurse motivation in preventing HAIs with the value (P-value = 0,009) and correlation coefficient r = 0,369 while there was no relation between the nurse perception on competition conflict settlement strategy, collaboration, compromise and avoidance with the nurse motivation in preventing HAIs.  Conclusion : There is a need to improve the motivation of the nurse workers in preventing Health-care associated infections through the employment of accommodation conflict strategy settlement.
